The New South Wales State Emergency Service and the ABC have signed an MOU at SES State Headquarters in Wollongong today.

The New South Wales State Emergency Service and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in NSW have signed a Memoranda of Understanding.

Under the terms of the MOU, both organisations will work closely together to provide reliable information, quickly broadcast to communicate urgent and important messages to members of the public; with the ABC providing the SES with a reliable and quick facility to communicate important messages to listeners of ABC Radio.

ABC Radio in NSW will broadcast emergency messages immediately, repeatedly, and for as long as necessary in order to notify listeners that a significant emergency is occurring in their area.

ABC web pages will also deliver emergency broadcast content.  The ABC will ensure that when declared emergencies exist there will be messages on ABC Television and other radio networks advising the audience that emergency information is available on ABC Local Radio and ABC Local Online.

Signing the MOU at SES State Headquarters in Wollongong were New South Wales State Director Mike McCluskey and SES Director General Brigadier Philip McNamara.
