The Snowy River SES and Paddy Platypus have taught PRIME Possum about the SES' alpine search and rescue role.

Volunteers from the SES' Snowy River Unit based in Jindabyne have joined with Paddy Platypus to show PRIME Possum and Mel from the Saturday Club children's television show all about the SES' alpine search and rescue role.

The volunteers and Paddy met PRIME Possum and Mel at the ski resort of Perisher Valley. They showed them how to dig a snow cave to stay warm and safe if you are in the snow and need shelter. Both Possum and Paddy tried some digging, but ended up shovelling more snow on themselves than digging a snow cave.

Mel tried out the snow cave for size and was surprised by how warm and quiet the cave was. The volunteers also told PRIME Possum and Mel about how to be safe in the snow - always tell someone where you are going, never go alone, and if you do get lost, seek shelter and wait for the emergency services to rescue you.

The episodes will air in regional New South Wales on July 19 and 26.
