The Newcastle Permanent Building Society has donated $1.2 million to the SES following the storms and floods of June last year.

The New South Wales SES has received a donation of $1.2 million dollars from the Newcastle Permanent Building Society. The donation was made following the devastating floods and storms that affected the Hunter and Central Coast regions in June of last year, with the donation made on the anniversary of last year's floods.

The donation was made to Mr John Heath Director Logistics representing the Director General and Greg Perry, SES Hunter Region Controller; by Mr Michael Slater, Chairman of the Newcastle Permanent Building Society Regional Relief Fund.

One million dollars has been set aside to be spent on the 18 units in the Hunter Region as well as the Hunter Region Headquarters. The donation will be used for such items as:

  • New computers for additional information technology capability in the Region Headquarters thus enabling them to have a dedicated call centre.
  • A Type 1 Rescue Vehicle for Muswellbrook $120,000
  • A Type 3 Response Vehicle for Murrurundi
  • A 4.7 metre “Jabiru” floodboat for Lake Macquarie (Boolaro) Unit.
  • A 1x 25kva Generator for Singleton and Scone units.
  • Furniture upgrades in Operations rooms throughout the region.

Maitland and Port Stephens units each have been allocated $100, 000 to be utilised on their new Headquarters.

A further $200,000 was distributed equally to the Gosford and the Wyong SES Units on the Central Coast.

The SES thanks the Newcastle Permanent Building Society for their generosity and support.
