Penrith FloodSafe Guide

The Nepean River and its tributaries have created a beautiful environment, but the very nature of this landscape leaves it prone to flooding

In the past, areas of Leonay, Regentville, Jamisontown, Emu Plains, the Penrith CBD, Castlereagh, Cranebrook, Londonderry, Werrington, Berkshire Park and Llandilo have been badly flooded. The largest flood ever measured at Penrith was in 1867. An account of the time described the effect of the rushing waters “carrying with them houses, haystacks, farming implements, produce and livestock”. The peak height reached was only 2.3m below the deck of the present Victoria Bridge.
